Join us in beautiful San Diego to learn more about effectively implementing Head Start and Early Head Start health, safety, facilities, and transportation requirements, during the Third Annual Head Start Governance and Management Institute on September 18 and 19, 2018.  This year’s Institute will have an exclusive “Focus on Health and Safety.”

You asked for more training on Head Start and Early Head Start health and safety topics, and we listened! Our annual Governance and Management Institute will take an in-depth look at health, safety, facilities, and transportation issues for 2018 to help you avoid common problems while implementing a high-quality program.  Health, safety, transportation, and facilities issues have been among the leading causes for deficiencies and significant noncompliance findings for many years now.  In fact, the Office of Head Start has increasingly focused on these major problem areas, and this emphasis on health and safety shows no sign of changing.  By attending the Head Start Governance and Management Institute:  Focus on Health and Safety in San Diego, California, on September 18 and 19, 2018, you will learn how to implement best practices to avoid deficiencies and other compliance issues while staying up-to-date on recent developments affecting health, safety, facilities, and transportation requirements.

The Institute has a fully updated and revised curriculum for 2018 to reflect the special “Focus on Health and Safety,” with a look not just at the requirement in the Performance Standards and Head Start Act but also the new Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 and updated facilities guidance from the Office of Head Start.  During the two full days of this year’s Institute, you will take an in-depth look at Head Start and Early Head Start health and safety issues, including:

  • Meeting health and safety requirements under the Head Start Program Performance Standards and Head Start Act;
  • Preparing for monitoring under the Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 framework;
  • Implementing health services (including health status, nutrition, and mental health);
  • Complying with health and safety standards for different program options (including center-based, home-based, and family child care);
  • Avoiding common yet critical environmental health and safety issues;
  • Integrating Caring for Our Children Basic and related best practices in program policies and practices;
  • Implementing active supervision;
  • Complying with Life Safety Code requirements;
  • Meeting requirements for child supervision and appropriate discipline;
  • Implementing the transportation standards under the Performance Standards and best practices for safely transporting Head Start and Early Head Start children;
  • Identifying risks related to health, safety, and transportation;
  • Implementing an effective ongoing monitoring system; and,
  • Addressing the consequences of noncompliance and successfully responding to issues.

In addition to discussing these important health and safety topics, you will also have ample opportunities on both days of the Head Start Governance and Management Institute:  Focus on Health and Safety to get answers to your pressing questions about health, safety, transportation, and facilities requirements.  make sure that your Head Start or Early Head Start program is in compliance with health, safety, transportation, and facilities requirements, by attending the Focus on Health and Safety training in San Diego on September 18 and 19, 2018.
